This introductory course is designed to provide first-year students of the English Language Program with basic concepts in phonetics and phonology with principal emphasis on the English language through the lecturer’s presentations, in-class activities and worksheets assigned to students. Students will gain an understanding of the articulatory mechanisms for producing consonants, vowels, as well as aspects of connected speech. The knowledge and skills acquired from the course will provide students with necessary foundations to better study other linguistic subjects and enhance students’ pronunciation and speaking skills.
