The course provides third- year students of BA in The English Language with knowledge and skills to conduct a contrastive analysis of linguistic and cultural aspects in English and Vietnamese. The course covers the fundamental knowledge of contrastive analysis, including instrumental notions, terminology, approaches, procedures and skills for contrastive
analysis in phonology, grammar, lexicology, semantics and pragmatics.
Students’ skills of analysis, critical thinking, discussion and teamwork
are also promoted through class activities, such as lecturing,
brainstorming, discussion, questions and answers, group discussion,
group assignment on contrastive analysis, which helps to develop students’ analytical skills introduced in other courses of language theory and translation.
