COURSE OUTLINE

 I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

 This course is designed for fourth-year students of the English Language Program. It extends over a semester of 15 weeks with 03 periods per week. The course is delivered in the seventh semester of the eight-semester program. Key aspects of the course include increased emphasis on tasks of consecutive interpreting to promote students’ fluency of both Vietnamese and English interpretation, and mastery of interpreting skills (memorizing, note-taking, paraphrasing, and summarizing) through practice with higher level of complexity. The course also aims at developing students’ ability in doing research for effectively handling interpreting assignments. The course also engages learners with individual, pair and group work activities through which they can foster autonomous, collaborative and life-long learning. 

II. COURSE OBJECTIVES 

This course aims to o provide students with opportunities to practise interpretation using the established linguistic, cultural and social knowledge with higher level of complexity; o foster students’ interpretive skills through exposure to interpreting discourses of higher level of difficulty of accent, speed, length of speech; o offer students opportunity to expand repertoire of topic-based knowledge and vocabulary through real-life interpreting tasks (modeling, role-play, simulated activities); o improve students’ skills in public speaking and presentation as well as promote students’ independent and collaborative learning.

 III. COURSE ASSESSMENT On-going assessment: 50% • Attendance + In-class participation (individual, pair, group work): 15% • Interpreting logbook (Individual): 15% • Mid-term test (Individual): 20% End-of-term Exam: 50% • Oral test (Individual): 50%
